Senior Partner Retires

Continuum Architecture, Victoria’s oldest continually operating architectural firm – 111 years and counting – has announced that one of its senior partners, Brian Lord, is retiring as of September 24, after 43 years with the company.

Remarkably, Brian has worked for only one company throughout his entire career. Fresh out of BCIT with a diploma in Architectural Technology, he landed his first job at Victoria firm Siddall Dennis Warner in 1978. And there he stayed, dedicated to the company’s success, expertly taking projects through to completion. From 1996 – 2013 he served as Partner, when it was named Warner James Architects. He has watched the company go through a total of 6 rebrands over the years, including its most recent as Continuum in 2020.

“It’s not possible to fill Brian’s shoes – he brings 43 years of experience and skill to our office,” says the firm’s remaining Senior Partner Tony James. “But he’s leaving at a time when we’ve never been stronger in terms of our staff. So, while there’s no good time for a person of Brian’s stature to leave, the timing couldn’t be better.”

Brian has won admiration throughout the industry for his technical know-how, meticulous documentation, and commitment to budgeting and scheduling. His professional legacy lives on in Continuum’s high standards, and in architectural landmarks throughout Victoria, from popular pubs like the Sticky Wicket, the Continuing Education Building and Mearns Addition to the McPherson Library at UVic, and the nearly completed Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital in Saanich.
